Got A Pretty Dress!

I feel really girly and uber happy with this buy. Yup, giddy enough to send send gift basket to charlotte, north carolina even if I don’t know anyone there. Lol. I’m kidding of course.

Dress on a Bargain

I’m actually berating myself coz I only bought one of these during our recent Siem Reap. I found this little beauty (the paisley pattern caught my eye and I just adore paisley patterns!) at the Night Market and I bargained like crazy and went away with this dress for only $3. I think they sell cheaper stuff in the night market. Since I wasn’t really planning to do any shopping, I settled for only one dress thinking I could just buy this from the markets here in Phnom Penh.

Arrgh!!! Too bad, I checked the markets here and they sell it for $8, if I bargain hard enough they relent to $6. I really really should have bought more of this. But we are planning another Siem Reap trip sometime soon and I’m definitely buying some more of this.

And oh, not only is it pretty, its super comfy and has a very slimming effect on me. Just what I need hahaha.

A Cheap and Comfy Dress for Moi

I’m so frustrated today. Our vacation has wreaked havoc on my diet and exercise and I ended up gaining again the meager weight I have lost the past few weeks. It’s crazy and I feel kinda depressed about it. To top it all I feel so lethargic about exercising again because its so hot. Sigh. Excuses I daresay, but right now I’m sorely tempted to just hunt for some website with click to read reviews on hydroxystim.

I promised myself no shopping for awhile but a girl depressed just gotta cheer herself up right? And besides I just spent $2.5 on this cotton comfy dress. It’s not the best quality but I like the fabric and the simple style. I could use it this summer coz its thin, lightweight and not hot at all.

Cheap Dress from Tuol Tompong Market

It’s pretty versatile too. Can be used as is, or looks great with a pair of leggings. I found it from a pile of clothes in Russian Market, Tuol Tompong here in Phnom Penh. You have to dig awhile in that pile to come up with something and that’s probably why its so cheap.

Girls Dresses from Siem Reap Night Market

I’m a little bit more thrifty and conservative when buying clothes for my daughter. Why? She is just 8 years old, and growing so fast so she keeps outgrowing clothes. I usually buy her clothes that are stretchable like leggings and maman-dresses. And I also refrain from buying very expensive stuff since I know she’ll only be using it for awhile.

Finding cheap clothes for kids is hard, and oftentimes I discover I find good bargains in small shops, markets at least small enough not to have posguys barcode scanner. Just like these two latest dresses I found for her.

Love the prints on this dress!

Girls Pretty Summer Dress

Gorgeous Dark Pink Color. And the design is versatile. Can also be worn as skirt (when she's tall enough)

I bought this two during a trip to Siem Reap and I found this at the night market. And not on the main stalls but on the sidestreets. These pretty little things just cost me $4 each. And the good thing is that its pretty, comfy and the kiddo loves it. She says its pretty and looks fashionable. Lol.

Best of all, these two didn’t cost me more than $10! If I went looking for a dress for her in a mall, I would probably end up with nothing with just $10. So this is a really happy buy for me.

Got To Shop

I did promise myself I won’t shop for clothes anymore. At least in the next few months. I’ve got plenty already (for now, hahaha) and I don’t have space in my closet anymore. But right now I have to go and shop…for my daughter’s wardrobe that is.

She is growing really fast and although I’ve been buying her mostly stretchy leggings and loose maman-like shirts and dresses, she looks now like she’s bursting. Lol. She’a bit difficult to dress coz she has a very good idea of how she want to look like and hates clothes that makes her look like she going to attend 1st holy communion for boys. Meaning, she doesn’t like to tight-fitting and structured clothes. Clothes that looks really starch-ironed are a no-no for her. It has to be cotton and soft. Otherwise, she’d be really uncomfortable.

So now I have to go and practice that thrift and fashion savvy mom sense I’ve managed to acquire and buy her stuff that she can be comfortable in and something that is not too expensive either knowing that she’ll outgrow it in a year or two. Wish me lots of luck!

Thrift Hunting Meme

LOL! I’m rushing I know. I forgot the meme I was hosting. I was on lazy, procrastinating mood today and it was only now that it stuck me, yay! its Thursday and I’m supposed to post this and still have tons to do and pending research on Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Advantage. But better late than never, right? At least that’s what the great procrastinators like me, tell themselves always :D

Today, I’m sharing something I love to bits! I’m not the ‘dressy’ type of person and it pains me to buy a dress that is expensive knowing I won’t wear it often. So I prefer bargain stuff. Last Christmas though I decided to give myself a gift. Mainly because I had a few weddings to attend and didn’t have a dress to wear. I scoured a web for something elegant but still within my price range and found this at Target. Priced at $39.99 which I thought was still pricey but I had some discount codes from previous purchases so I got 20% Off plus free shipping to a US address so all in all I paid $32.

I was apprehensive about the dress quality but when it came I love it!!! It had hints of gold, definitely not cheap looking and the sewing was fantastic. One of my better buys. And I’ve worn it a couple of times already. It’s a lot pricier than previous buys but its good value. I’m sure it’ll see a lot of wearing from me.

Here’s how it actually looked like. I like pairing this with the turqouise necklace my friend  Sam made. =)

Scoring Internet Bargains

Scoring Internet Bargains

I love online shopping and I made a lot of good buys already online. Right now though, I have to be on ‘diet’ with online shopping coz were based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There is no local Ebay here where I used to buy a lot of goodies also some online companies charge super exorbitant shipping fees to ship here.  But anyway, were slowly getting good service so hopefully online shopping will get easier for me in coming years.

When buying online, for sure you’d have a lot of apprehensions. So how do you score good quality buys and at bargain prices. Here’s some tips:

(1) Know what you want. The internet is like a huge dumping ground. You’ll be bound to be overwhelmed with the variety of choices. So before you start, decide what you want. Example, you want to buy a dress, then be firm about it.

(2) Use your search engine. Make detailed searches to see what are the available brands, stores that offer it.

(3) Make use of social shopping networks. Check out ThisNext, Kaboodle, and the like for shoppers recommendations. This sites have really good categorization so you won’t get lost.

(4) Once you settled on a few brands or stores, then its time to read reviews. Buy only from reputable websites. If its your first time to buy its best to read user reviews on the site performance. Read product reviews too.

(5) Know about the return policy. This is very important.

(6) Compare shipping charges. You found the one you want from several stores, check out the differences in shipping costs.

(7) You’ve decided on which store to buy from? Then get back to your search engine and time to search for coupons, discount codes. I always do this and this saves me not just a few cents but sometimes almost a hundred in discounts.

(8) Learn about the customs charges in your locality. Each country have different customs and import duties and taxes levied. Some online shops are also willing to mark your package as ‘gift’ if its below a certain amount and this can be a big help in saving big on duties.
