Girls Dresses from Siem Reap Night Market

I’m a little bit more thrifty and conservative when buying clothes for my daughter. Why? She is just 8 years old, and growing so fast so she keeps outgrowing clothes. I usually buy her clothes that are stretchable like leggings and maman-dresses. And I also refrain from buying very expensive stuff since I know she’ll only be using it for awhile.

Finding cheap clothes for kids is hard, and oftentimes I discover I find good bargains in small shops, markets at least small enough not to have posguys barcode scanner. Just like these two latest dresses I found for her.

Girls Pink Cambodian design dress

Love the prints on this dress!

Girls Pretty Summer Dress

Gorgeous Dark Pink Color. And the design is versatile. Can also be worn as skirt (when she's tall enough)

I bought this two during a trip to Siem Reap and I found this at the night market. And not on the main stalls but on the sidestreets. These pretty little things just cost me $4 each. And the good thing is that its pretty, comfy and the kiddo loves it. She says its pretty and looks fashionable. Lol.

Best of all, these two didn’t cost me more than $10! If I went looking for a dress for her in a mall, I would probably end up with nothing with just $10. So this is a really happy buy for me.

Discount Cosmetics @ Strawberry Net

Discount Cosmetics @ Strawberry Net

I’m always on the lookout for good discounts and bargains. And amazingly I keep stumbling upon online shops where you can get really good value for money. Take for instance this shop I came across with when I was searching for creatine supplements. It’s called StrawberryNet and its brimming with beauty products and perfumes at discounted prices.

If you’re into beauty items then this is a great place to check out and shop. I have yet to try them but when I discovered the site I hopped on and read a lot of favorable site reviews. Another plus for this site is their Free Shipping to Anywhere feature. They also carry a lot of brands so this is going to be a haven for beauty product shoppers.

Have a look and tell me what you think and if you have experience shopping on this site, it’ll be great if you can share your shopping experience..

Shopping Quote #1

Credit buying is much like being drunk. The buzz happens immediately and gives you a lift…. The hangover comes the day after. ~Joyce Brothers

Nope, I’m not against the use of credit card. In fact I use it and also a debit card. What I shun from doing is buying things on credit that I know I don’t have the funds to pay back. That is living beyond our means and irresponsible shopping.

Sometimes, having credit makes us feel like millionaires but the reality of those ‘over our means’ purchases is really hard to swallow. When the euphoria ends, the headaches begin. I learned this the hard way.

So now, I’d much rather spend on bargains, but at least that’s what I can afford and would not make me worry if I have the money to pay for it. I don’t have qualms to spend, if and when I have the funds to spend. Credit or not, its a wise thing to make sure you have something to cover for your expenses.

And the quote just about sums it up. Let us all make wise buying and spending choices.

What It’s All About..

Well, I’ve just updated my about page and I’m posting some excerpts here. I know most peeps won’t take a peep at my about page that’s why I’m posting it here. Hahaha.. I am that sneakily devious.

girl-on-a-thrift-hunt

Well, here it is..Copy and pasted fresh from my ABOUT page..

What’s a thrift hunt? What got me into bargain hunting? Why do I love it so much?

Girls love to shop! Haha! I’m sure everybody knows that, but I’ll let you in on a secret – I am afflicted with a much serious strain of the shopping virus. I’m a consummate shopper, I love scoring good buys. But since becoming a mom and a wife, I had become budget conscious.

While I like indulging my shop-till-you-drop tendencies, I’m also mindful of how much I am spending. That’s one of the reasons I go into thrift/bargain hunting. You seriously can’t resists grabbing those huge price cutoffs as opposed to paying astronomical sums for something that looks and feels the same!

Another reason is that, sometimes its hard to find a particular style you want in new/boutique shops. I love unique items that appeal to my own fashion style. I rarely buy an item just because its the in thing or just because it this hot new thing from a hot new designer.

Why do I love thrift hunting? I think I love the thrill of digging through piles of stuff and finding that one gem of a bargain. And funnily enough, those items I score from bargain and thrift hunts, are items I end up really loving and using a lot of times.

And of course, being the crazy blogger that I am, I just needed to have a place to share my thrift finds. So here we are on Girl On A Thrift Hunt which will be henceforth referred to as G-O-T-H.

{Lol! I find the blog title a bit trying to say, so I’m now sticking to the new acronym}

G-O-T-H Thrift Hunting Glossary

I’ll be using some short versions of terms/slangs on the blog, I hope people could still ‘get me’. This list is by no means complete and I’ll be adding more as I blog and thrift hunt more.

Thrift Hunting – buying goodies {can be clothes, home items, furniture etc} at a discount/sale. Will also include second hand items. Can be from garage, yard sales, online sales, second hand shops. It can also include things you bought at a lot lower price than original price quoted after some serious haggling. We do salute top notch bargaining skills!

G-O-T-H – acronym for this blog – Girl on a Thrift Hunt.

BB – Best buy! Just the term for items snagged at a good price, good quality and good style.

FF – short for Fab Find. A favorite thrift hunt find.

Gold Mine - a shop/market/place to check out for serious thrift hunters.

IWT – short for I-Want-This! Something I want but can’t afford or logistics/geography doesn’t allow me to buy it.

IHT – I-Heart-This. An FF with an added obsession. Top of my favorite list.

OWSS – short for Online Window Surf Shopping. Another addictive past time of mine. You’ll see occasional posts tagged OWSS finds and they’ll most probably be tagged as IWT hehe..

UK - ukay ukay. Second hand goodies.

-SHIPPER – something I worship and adore! for example I’m a PURPLE-shipper. Or I am a Christian Louboutin-shipper {hehe coz I can’t afford one, but I like the design ideas so I just opted to become a ‘shipper’.

Spazz – Giddy, excited, happy, me freaking out or just a plain reaction to something weird/outrageous/fabulous etc. {Yes, thrift hunting induces ‘spazzing’ in me}

Flambo – will refer to someone with an outrageously flamboyant fashion sense.

DollarCatch – a really cheap find.

Bleh – a thrift/bargain find that ends up to be of boring, zzzzz!, ewwww, not good value variety.

HLM – Haggling Like Mad. Yup! I love markets, bazaars where you can haggle like there is no tomorrow. I’ll be posting some items bought after some serious, solemn and oftentimes nerve wracking HLM sessions.

A disclaimer: That vector image doesn’t really look like me. I’m way ‘fuller figured’ that that and I can’t show my belly button for the life of me.. But the colors are fab and oh the shopping bags are a nice touch.
