**Meme page is up. Please just check the SHARE A THRIFT HUNT MEME page for the rules and details.***

**UPDATE** Sorry forgot to add the date when we’ll be starting the meme. First meme post would be up on Thursday, February 10, 2011. That should give us time to go thrift hunting eh?

Whew! I’ve finally gotten around to posting this. Hahaha.  It’s a great time to end procrastination right? Actually, DonyaBooding, a thrifting/blogging friend and I has been tossing ideas about this ‘share-a-thrift-hunt-meme’ since early last year. But we had a ‘life’ in between so this has been put on the back burner.

But I’m  now back on track and starting the meme as the Chinese New Year is about to start, is auspicious hehe. See, I’ve been really good, overhauling a lot of my blogs last week and I even managed to make a logo for this thrift-hunting meme..

Share a Thrift Hunt Meme

Why a thrift hunting meme? Well, we love shopping bargains, vintage and we also love sharing our finds. Having a network of thrift hunters would also allow us to discover new thrifting gold mines in every place. Thrifting is also fun and we wanna share the fun with others. And if those reasons are not enough to convince, then this might:

Thrift was never more necessary in the world’s history than it is today. ~Francis H. Sisson

I’ll be posting the details of the ‘Share-A-Thrift-Hunt-Meme‘ on its own page, so please just check it out. Everyone is welcome to join, and if you’ve got friends who love thrifting, shopping on discounts, sale hunts, then please do spread the invite.

Featured Video: Thrift Shopping 101

Of course, I won’t be posting just thrifting finds. For one, if I go thrifting just to have something to post here then that would definitely defeat the purpose of being thrifty, no?

I’ll also be featuring thrifting, shopping quotes and thoughts, Online Window Surf Shopping Finds on Sale, tips and how to’s about thrifting and vintage shopping and also videos featuring bargain hauls, tips from other thrift shopping fanatics.

I’m also thinking about featuring shopping coupons from online shops, but I’m twiddling my thumbs on that and we’ll see if I’d decide to add that feature here.

Here’s a Thrift Shopping 101 Video from youtube user TheVintageSociety. For non-thrifters, at least it’ll give you an idea why we are going gaga about vintage and thrift shopping. Why we are always on a mad dash for the latest Gold Mine and scoring some FF’s.

Thrifting Quote #2

“Economical use of your time and money = thrift.”
Catherine Pulsifer

Thrifting is indeed not just going to thrift shops. I think its making the best use of and getting the maximum value for your time and money. That doesn’t just apply to shopping. It’s hard to be thrifty, but I personally try to do it. I work hard for the money I earn so I want to see some value out of it.

Once you get used to being thrifty I guess it becomes a way of life. And I hope I could be more consistent and make this my way of life too.

An IHT: A Girly Denim Wrap Skirt

IHT – I Heart This! A fab thrift hunting find that turned into a favorite. Wherever I go, it seems I can’t help but go thrift shopping. Got this when I was in Manila a few months ago. I was sending off my brother on his bus ride off to Bicol. The bus company’s office was located in a building in Ermita and alongside these I was so thrilled to see lots and lots of ukay-ukay shops.

So what to do but browse while waiting for his ride to come. And got this…for only Php20! That’s less than $.50

I just love it. Very feminine, but the denim makes it sturdy enough for the klutzy me. I love wearing it with flats, sandals and even rubber shoes. Hubby is now even kidding and asking why he keeps seeing me using this almost every week. Well, its so comfy and cute.

Hope to score more items like this..

An FF: A Black Bag for $3!

It’s a fab find. But come to think of it, its also one of my best buys {BB} EVER! It was one of those lazy weekends last year. After a really sumptuous lunch, we were just driving around Phnom Penh in circles. Then hubby suddenly wanted to go to Japan Thrift Shop along St. 47.

Who am I to say no? The thing is he’s even much more into thrifting than me. I’m not sure what he wanted to buy but I happily trotted along with our daughter.

And voila! Found this…a black “doctor’s bag” by Japanese brand Mila Sehon. I’ve been wanting a bag like this is a looong time and I can’t find one that looks good to me and at a good price too. It’s almost brand new, no scratches or anything, I’m even willing to bet it hasn’t been used more than a few times.

Definitely a Best Buy and a Fab Find. It’s just my kind of bag, I love using this when travelling. It also has two separate compartments inside for easier organization and of course its big so I could stash a lot of things in it..And I only paid $3 for it, I know with how the bag looks and since its almost new, I would have paid….$3.2 hahahaha! I’m a cheapskate you know.

Checking Out Sakura Used Japanese Products

I think I just discovered another thrifting Gold Mine! A couple of days after Christmas we were driving around Phnom Penh and saw a huge banner saying “christmas and new year sale 30% off”.  The shops sign – Sakura Used Japanese Products. Now, that really got my thrifting antenna bleeping like mad.

The place is huge and almost spilling over with goodies. I saw a lot of bags, shoes, toys, clothes and they have a good number of home items. From kitchen items to home furnishings. The owner though said that furnishings are almost always snapped up and sold usually within the day they display it.

Just like this wood dining table set with four chairs with leather cushion priced at $60. Hubby was really wanting it but it was already sold and just waiting for the owner to pick it up.

Lots of baby carriers, strollers too..

Its a bit pricier compared to other thrifting shops here, like about 30-40% more expensive but its still worth checking out coz of the extensive inventory and I’m pretty sure they’ll be offering discounts if you buy more.

I didn’t buy anything on the first visit coz we were a bit pressed for time,  but I’m pretty sure I could get some FF‘s and BB‘s on this store soon.
